The choir accompanist will be responsible for accompanying an adult church choir. Musical selections will require keyboard, piano and organ skills. This position encompasses September through June, with July and August vacation. This person may have the opportunity to accompany children’s choirs to be established in the future. Other accompaniment duties may become available as church needs develop. An audition demonstrating accompaniment skills will be required of the applicant.

 THE ACCOMPANIST:

1.          should have an understanding of the importance of music within the life of the congregation.

2.          will assist in weekly choir rehearsal/s.

3.          will accompany the choir in weekly church service/s.

4.          will conference with choir director on an “as needed” basis.

5.          will have a good working relationship with the choir director, choir and pastor.

6.          must have strong sight-reading skills.

7.          will practice independently, as needed.

8.          must be able to follow choir director’s tempo, dynamics, phrasing, etc.

9.          will be willing to learn Lutheran liturgy, order of service and hymns, if unfamiliar.

10.      should be versatile in playing a variety of musical genres including: classical, contemporary, hymns, jazz, gospel

11.      would benefit from having improvisational skills.

12.      will rehearse, as needed, with persons providing special music.

13.      should have knowledge of basic music theory and choral conducting including: identifying key signatures, chord structure, simple transpositions, beat patterns

14.      Should be sensitive to ensemble challenges such as balancing volume between instrument and voice.
